Pleasure Beach Picks Up Major Awards

The Big One

The last few months have been a tough time for Blackpool’s tourist industry. However, there was a ray of sunshine over the Pleasure Beach as the theme park picked up seven major industry awards this weekend.

The thrill ride ‘Valhalla’ picked up the gold award for Best Water Ride at the 2020 Theme Park Awards. The inaugural awards ceremony was organised by ThemeParks-UK.com, an independent guide to theme parks across Great Britain. Along with the award for ‘Best Ride’ the Pleasure Beach also scooped the top prize for ‘Best Indoor Attraction’ for Wallace Gromit’s Thrill-O-Matic and ‘Best Value’ overall.

The British public voted on the awards, in total over 50,000 people got involved in picking their favourite rides and attractions. Blackpool Pleasure Beach was the second biggest winner on the night. The largest number of awards went to Alton Towers, which claimed 14 gongs. The Pleasure Beach also won awards for the ‘Best Show’ (Hot Ice – Silver) and ‘Best Restuarant’ (White Tower Restuarant – Silver).

A spokesperson for Blackpool Pleasure Beach said: “Blackpool Pleasure Beach is delighted to have won awards in so many categories reflecting the quality, value and range of attractions. Our thanks go to the organisers of the awards, Theme Parks UK, the judges and all the public who voted”.

Lawrence Roots, Editor of ThemeParks-UK.com, said: “Blackpool Pleasure Beach has scooped awards in 11 categories, a remarkable achievement that’s richly deserved by the park. The vision of managing director Amanda Thompson OBE, and the hard work of her team, really have been rewarded.”

Overall, the Awards were a bright spot in an otherwise overcast year for the Pleasure Beach. Hopefully, 2021 will bring more awards and a successful season for the Pleasure Beach.
